CAHAM: The Center for Ancestral Healing Arts and Medicines proudly presents an 8-part workshop series on Chicano & Mexican traditional healing arts! Featuring instruction from curanderas & curanderos from all over the southwest, this class moves through the Mexikah Medicine Wheel to teach students practical, traditional healing skills for holistic health & wellbeing. All information is from open-practice traditions of curanderismo; learners of all levels are welcome. ¡La cultura cura!

Curanderismo Workshop 5: Healing with Air (North)

Part 5 of 8 in the CAHAM curanderismo workshop series, featuring guest instruction from L.A. native healer Lanette Díaz! Students will learn the basics of working with the air element and the direction of the North (Mictlampa), including air-associated herbs; how to make an air-element incense blend; and how to perform traditional sound and wind limpias.

Death in the Afternoon: Medicinal Plant Walk for Healing Grief & Loss

 Join ecological herbalist and founder of Albuquerque Herbalism Dara Saville; death doula and INELDA instructor Kim Stravers; and curandero and death scholar Jesús Cuauhtémoc Villa on an educational walking meditation on what nature and medicinal plants can teach us about navigating the cycle of life, loss, grief, and rebirth.

Curanderismo Workshop 6: Healing w/ the Sacred Feminine (Tonantzin Tlalli)

Sat 07/12/25

Part 6 of 8 in the CAHAM curanderismo workshop series. Students will learn the basics of working with the Sacred Feminine, lunar energies, and Mother Earth (Tonantzin Tlalli), herbs for women's health, the ihiyotl, and a traditional egg and broom barrida (sweeping cleansing) for susto (fright sickness) and soul retrieval.

Curanderismo Workshop 7: Healing w/ the Sacred Masculine (Tonatiuh)

Sat 08/09/25

Part 7 of 8 in the CAHAM curanderismo workshop series. Students will learn the basics of working with the Sacred Masculine. Father Sun (Tonatiuh), and Father Sky (Tonacatecuhtli), the tonalli, herbs for men's health, and a traditional cortalazos (cord-cutting) ritual for severing and clearing out negative, harmful energies.

Curanderismo Workshop 8: Healing with the Heart & Spirit (Center)

Sat 09/06/25

The final workshop in the CAHAM curanderismo series, featuring guest instruction from Doña Patricia Federico! Learn the basics of working with the Center of the Medicine Wheel (Xictlampa) in traditional Chicano & Mexican curanderismo. Students will learn to find and heal el pulso for cutting negative energetic ties; heal Heart & Spirit; and participate in a closing ceremony.

Curanderismo Workshop Series!

Join us at the Ocotillo Library and Workforce Literacy Center for a FREE community workshop series on curanderismo: Chicano & Mexican traditional medicine and healing arts! Made possible by a grant from Arizona Humanities and the National Endowment for the Humanities, this monthly workshop series introduces students to the basics of curanderismo and is open to learners of all backgrounds and learning levels. Students walk away from each class with tangible skills for self-care and communal wellness, including how to do limpias, how to make Agua de Florida, and much more. REGISTER HERE!
