CAHAM: The Center for Ancestral Healing Arts and Medicines proudly presents an 8-part workshop series on Chicano & Mexican traditional healing arts! Featuring instruction from curanderas & curanderos from all over the southwest, this class moves through the Mexikah Medicine Wheel to teach students practical, traditional healing skills for holistic health & wellbeing. All information is from open-practice traditions of curanderismo; learners of all levels are welcome. ¡La cultura cura!
Part 1 of 8 in the CAHAM curanderismo workshop series. Introduces students to the basics of curanderismo's history, philosophy, and practice. Students will participate in a traditional opening ceremony and walk away with practical healing skills for holistic health & wellbeing, including rituals for protecting and ridding oneself of negative energy. Part 2 of 8 in the CAHAM curanderismo workshop series. Learn the basics of working with the fire element and the direction of the East (Tlahuiztlampa) in Chicano & Mexican curanderismo. Students will learn about fire-associated herbs; how to make a basic copalero/sahumador (fire cup); and how to perform a traditional smoke limpia (energy cleansing or smudging). Students will learn about working with Tonatiuh (Father Sun), the tonalli, and a traditional cortalazos ritual (limpia for cutting and clearing away negative, harmful energies). The final workshop in the CAHAM curanderismo series. Learn the basics of working with the Center of the Medicine Wheel (Xictlampa) in traditional Chicano & Mexican curanderismo.
